~!Fairytales of old!~

~!He Brought Me To You!~
Paolo Montalban & KC Concepcion (plus an unknown singer :S)

CHRISTIAN:
In search of my life and my one true love
I prayed to almighty God above
And his masterful voice directed me to
The many things I was destined to do
So I sailed across the mighty seas
Pursued knowledge of the highest degree
Took to learning new skills
Experience new thrills
Felt my life was completely fulfilled

At the end of my amazing quest
After proving myself by achieving success
I hope to find a prize so rare
A priceless treasure beyond compare
For God promised he would bring me love
A love without measure trusting and true
And behold my dear Sapphire
He brought me to you
He brought me to you

SAPPHIRE:
In search of my life and my one true love
I prayed to almighty god above
His compassionate voice directed me to the many things I was destined to do
And in my private reverie
I read of lands across the sea
I imagined enchanting hollow and hill
Worlds beyond my windowsill

And through all of these my fancied quest
I cherish a secret, held close to my breast
I hope to find a prize so rare
A priceless treasure beyond compare
For God promised he would bring me love
A love without measure trusting and true
And behold my dear Christian

CHRISTIAN:
And behold my dear Sapphire

CHRISTIAN & SAPPHIRE:
He brought me to you
He brought me to you

My heart knew this without a doubt
That's what destiny's all about

CHRISTIAN:
God promised he would bring me love

SAPPHIRE:
A love strong and true

CHRISTIAN:
A promise he fulfilled above
He brought me to you

SAPPHIRE:
He brought me you

CHRISTIAN:
He brought me to you

(sung in unison with JEWEL)
In search of my life and my one true love
I prayed to almighty God above
And his masterful voice directed me to
The many things I was destined to do
So I sailed across the mighty seas
Pursued knowledge of the highest degree
Took to learning new skills
Experience new thrills
Felt my life was completely fulfilled

At the end of my amazing quest
After proving myself by achieving success
I hope to find a prize so rare
A priceless treasure beyond compare
For God promised he would bring me love
A love without measure trusting and true
And behold my sweet jewel
He brought me to you
He brought me to you

JEWEL:
What is this is feel
Is this for real
The longing inside that I just cannot hide

In search of this feeling they all call love
How could I've known someone up above
I find this rare and priceless treasure waiting
This isn't a story but fantasy
It's as real as his love for me
The feeling is true
What I feel for you

He brought me to you
He brought me to you...

This beautiful song comes from the Broadway version of The Little Mermaid...not the Disney-happy-ending-one...but the original fairytale with a sad ending.

All original fairytales are dark and have very disturbing factors. Although the one the put on Broadway took out the gory part, it stayed true to the storyline.

The original Little Mermaid was a siren of the sea with sisters. Of them all, she had the most beautiful voice. Their reason for being was to entice sailors to their deaths for them to collect the souls. The mermaids had no soul of their own and when they died, they would become foam on the sea.

When they turned fifteen, they would finally earn the right to go to the surface, and thus become a full-fledged siren.

The youngest yearned desperately for her turn, as her sisters told her wonderful stories of what they had seen. When it was her turn, she had fifteen oysters squezzed on her tail as a mark of rank. Though it pained her greatly, it was her grandmother said, "One must suffer for beauty."

She rose to the surface to see a wonderful ship. She fell in love with the handsome prince on board and could not bear to lead them to their deaths. Angered, the King caused a storm. Unable to watch him die, she saved him and brought him to a nearby beach. Hearing human voices, she hid behind a rock. The Prince was saved by a beautiful Princess who nursed him back to health.

Meanwhile, the little mermaid pined for him. Finding him, she managed to overhear him (or so she thought) singing of his love for her. In truth, he was singing to the princess of whom he had fallen deeply in love. Fueled by this supposed confirmation of his love for her, she makes a deal with the sea witch.

In exchange for a pair of legs, she would give up her voice. The sea witch told her, if she succeeded in making him love her more than anyone in the world, love her enough to marry her then she would share his soul and enter Heaven. However, the day he married anyone else, her heart would break as the sun rose and she would turn into foam on the sea. The sea witch cautioned her that she would feel great pain as she walked, every step would be like stepping on a thousand knives cutting into her feet, though she would be the most graceful of all. Knowing this, she agreed and the witch cut out her tongue.

The prince was them leaving for his country to prepare for his impending wedding. Finding her, he adopted her as a friend. However, the most he could feel for her was brotherly love. Everyday was spent in great pain yet she bore it all willingly for his love. She was unable to cry, even then because mermaids could not cry. On the night of the wedding, she stood at the prow of the wedding ship, knowing that as the sun rose, she would die.

Hearing the sweet melancholy song she knew so well, she leaned over to see her sisters in the water. They had sold their hair to the seawitch to bring her a magical dagger.
"Kill him and spread his blood on your feet. Then you will once again become a mermaid and live for hundreds of years."
She stood over him but knew she could not do it. As the sun rose, she threw herself and the dagger overboard, her heartbreaking.

However, before she hit the water, she felt herself being lifted high into the clouds, floating amongst hundreds of ethereal beings like her. She had become a spirit of the air. Now, she had a chance to earn a soul. For three hundred years, she was to bring sweet relief to people who needed it. When she floated into a home with a good child, she must smile upon him/her and a day would be taken off her tenure. If she entered the home of a bad child, she must cry over him/her and each tear would add a year to her tenure. When at last she had finished her term only then could she enter heaven.

As she floated off, she saw the prince and his bride looking for her. She floated over to kiss him and as she did, she felt tears falling down her cheeks.

This story is bittersweet and means a lot more...in truth, I sometimes prefer Disney's 2D cartoons to their recent animated ones. There was a lot more..."heart" in the 2D cartoons not to mention more meaningful songs....*shrugs*

But that's just me! :)
